The Writing's On The Wall
And even “The Wall” aka Rahul Dravid can probably read that it says that he needs to hang up his boots, while the question is “why?” and not after it becomes “why not?” After Dravid’s latest failure versus a depleted Australian attack, the chorus of “why not?” is getting louder and louder.
Venkatesh Prasad: A Coach And A Gentleman
India’s fast bowling stock has never looked better, and as Peter Roebuck wrote recently in his column in the Sydney Morning Herald, on the evidence of the last few Test matches, it would be hard to see how an Australian pace bowler would find a spot in the Indian squad, let alone in the playing eleven.
Ab Dilli (Delhi) Door Nahin
India are on the verge of wresting the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (I refuse to call it the “Airtel” Border-Gavaskar Trophy as that would be like calling The Ashes, The “Vodafone” Ashes) from the grasp of the Aussies and there is a quiet sense of expectancy after the massive defeat inflicted by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his boys on the flummoxed, flustered and frustrated Australians in Mohali.
My First ICL Experience...
..was DARK
literally there was "Ghanghor Andhera" in the stadium and on the screen....in the Ahemdabad v. Chennai game.
We were told by Jones and Greig who were unsuccesfuly trying to sound comic amidst a catostrophic tragedy... that there was a power failure in the Maidaan....the bulbs on the make-shift poles on the edges of the ground...went bust and fused.
Ganguly: Doing It His Way
Sourav Ganguly’s surprise announcement on October 7, that he will retire following the Australia series, was like his trademark offside drives, impeccably timed. What better way to go out than against the top team in the world, playing at home, and with nothing left to prove.
Have Pace, Need Polish
If someone a decade ago had suggested that India would soon have about ten Test class pace bowlers but only a handful of Test class spinners, he or she would have been laughed out of the room. But the reality is that is exactly where India is today.
Interesting Times For Cricket Fans
Being a cricket fan today is like suffering from multiple personality disorder. There are three types of cricket: Test cricket, ODIs, and Twenty20s. Besides that, there are National, Domestic, and hybrid International-Domestic Twenty20 club teams to follow. There are even three different Twenty20 club leagues to follow, the ICL, Stanford T20, and the IPL. What is a fan to do?
Time To Put Dhoni In Charge?
When Dravid quit the hot seat that is Indian cricket Captaincy, people expected Mahendra Singh Dhoni to be next. But the selectors realized that with series against Pakistan and Australia coming up, it may be wise to split the job. They appointed Kumble to be the care-taker Test Captain until Dhoni was ready, giving the ODI captaincy to Dhoni. Dhoni is now ready for Test captaincy too.
Supermaniam Badrinath: Takes Off
S. Badrinath has finally got his chance to shine, after nearly a decade proving himself at the first class level such that among active Indian players he has a first class average second only to the great Sachin Tendulkar. Flamy like millions of his faithful fans feared for his future. They need worry no more
VG = Very Good
The one positive for India from the recent Sri Lanka-India Tests was the excellent form of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir at the top of the batting line up. The two combined to give India a one-two combination at the top that was sufficient to knock back Sri Lanka in at least one match, despite the poor form of the middle order.
